Assessment Tomorrow: Once in a lifetime

Your task:

Write a speech intended for a group of 15- to 25-year-olds who are going on a challenging and demanding expedition. The speech must persuade them of the wonderful opportunity ahead of them, despite the physical effort and the many real dangers.

l  Decide what kind of expedition they will be going on. It doesn’t really matter what it is, but you need to have a clear idea about it so that you can think of reasons why people will be proud and excited to be involved.

l  What will the expedition actually involve?

l  What kinds of things will you need to include in your speech? You want them to be prepared for the challenges and dangers, but also be excited and exhilarated as they set off.  Make a list of:

l  the challenges, difficulties and dangers

l  the benefits, thrills and advantages of such an expedition.
